THE UNIVERSE OF REIKI 2

Each level of Reiki has its own universe, meaning, abilities, practices, and timelines. In this piece, rather than discussing each level individually, I’d like to focus on why many people tend to struggle particularly in the Second Degree, and what can be done about it.
As you know, with each stage and initiation, the aura channels and the vessel of consciousness expand even more. Throughout and after these processes, Reiki cleanses, balances, and charges us across the four bodies — physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
So why do we often struggle specifically with Level 2?Reiki Level 2 is a stage where we open from the physical into the emotional and mental layers, the aura, the subconscious, the heart center, and even the astral plane. As Reiki operates according to our condition in these layers, we can naturally encounter resistance — consciously or unconsciously. You can also find a broader explanation in my article “When We Become a Channel for Energy Healing.”
Difficulties can manifest in many ways in our lives — lack of motivation, lethargy, wanting to quit, or simply not wanting to give Reiki to others. While these are quite natural and part of the process, when we're in the thick of it, it often doesn’t feel that way. And if we lack knowledge of how the system works, we may misinterpret what we’re experiencing and misguide ourselves. As you know, every challenge is also a doorway — if understood and used correctly. Often, we don’t use it correctly, and this can lead to more discomfort. It’s a deeply important matter.
Another reason for the struggle is that in Reiki 2, we are initiated into symbols — and as these symbols begin to activate and internalize within us, we may face challenges depending on the energetic loads they bring to the surface.
Yet another reason is that Level 2 requires a great deal of ongoing commitment and consistent practice. It introduces us to new steps — astral work, distance healing, meditation, subconscious exploration, and energetic visualization. In these new territories, we often feel like fish out of water — unfamiliar with continuity, the inner requirements of the spiritual path, mystical sciences, and the foundational practices of these areas.
On the other hand, those who receive Reiki 2 must eventually move on to Level 3. This necessity doesn't apply to Levels 1 or 3 independently — but Reiki 2 needs to be completed with Level 3, like a wheel that needs alignment. Reiki 2 is the transitional gate that helps complete the circle!
When you reflect on it, Level 2 is a bit like limbo. It is a stage of Celal (Majesty); not a place to settle easily, yet full of significant experiences that require digestion. And during this process, due to the nature of the energy mechanics, your balance may become more easily disrupted.
Taking all this into account, the atmosphere of Reiki 2 stands out as one of Reiki’s most unique and essential realms. Though its practices, climate, and symbols may challenge you from many angles, they are also some of the most precious building blocks that will empower and deepen you. I see Reiki 2 as an “Alice in Wonderland” experience — the environment where the lotus begins to bloom.
From what I’ve experienced personally and witnessed in my students, the series of major life events and the capacity for deep transformation often occurs in Reiki 2. Please see your struggles as the coal transforming into diamond. I’d like to close with a few suggestions to help you pass through this stage more smoothly:
Even if you don’t feel like it or are struggling, begin working with the symbols and internalize them. After the 21-day period, try to consistently engage with the opening practices — such as age meditations, distance healing, and offering Reiki to others.
Educate yourself about self-sabotage and collect helpful tools. Don’t stray too far from simple, free, and safe knowledge — stay connected to a steady routine and maintain your energetic boundaries.
Seek additional support if necessary, and stay in contact with your teacher. Subconscious reprogramming, karmic cleansings, and group workshops are just some of the options.
When panic hits or things feel overwhelming, slow down and stay calm. Everything is unfolding as it should. Process what’s happening, take your time, and enjoy the experience — but also maintain your balance. In other words, don’t get stuck in Level 2 — this is just the beginning.
If, despite continued efforts and support, it’s been 6 months or even over a year and you still can’t complete it or feel disconnected — no matter where you are in the process — just move on to Level 3. Its energy will link back and complete what’s missing in Level 2, helping you close the circle in a different way.
We can't fully evaluate a level while we’re still inside it. It’s like trying to see a landscape you can only truly perceive after ascending to the next level. What needs to happen will happen — or not — in the right way, at the right time. And that, too, is a blessing. On this journey, our only true responsibility is to remain as conscious and clean-handed as we can. That’s all I ever suggest — keep that hand as aware and as pure as possible.
Level 2 is a stage where you will slow down and accelerate, reach your peaks and touch your depths. In short, it is both the highest and the lowest.
May it be ever-present with love and healing,May it be received in one breath with sweetness and abundance, and may it blossom fully in Level 3.
To my fellow travelers who feel scattered in the universe of Level 2:Just as not every white-bearded elder is our wise grandfather, not everything with a loud, forceful presence is darkness. Simply walk with integrity.
For me, the 9 months I spent in Level 2 were filled with radical changes, deep struggles, awe, and transformation in every area of life. It was a luminous guide, full of lessons.I kiss the hands of my teacher, the Giver, and everything — including myself — that played a part in this journey.
May we walk many more of these paths together…
